Terms and Conditions
Last updated 28 August 2026
Speakelle is a product of Trontra LLC (Trontra). Learn English by talking. These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) are the contract between you and Trontra LLC for access to and use of Speakelle — the website, the lessons, the live AI tutor, and everything that sits around them.
Please read them. Creating an account, signing in, or otherwise using Speakelle means you agree. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Who we are
Speakelle is operated by Trontra LLC (“we”, “us”, “our”), a limited liability company. Trontra is the studio; Speakelle is the product. You can read more about the studio at www.trontra.com.
Questions about these Terms, the service, billing, a child’s account, or your data go to hell@trontra.com. That is the address we watch. See also the Privacy Policy.
Agreement to these terms
These Terms apply to anyone who visits or uses Speakelle, whether they have paid, they are on the free plan, or they are only reading this page. The sign-in screen says the same thing in shorter form: by continuing, you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy.
If you use Speakelle on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation, and “you” means both you and it.
We may refuse, suspend, or close access where these Terms are broken, where the law requires it, or where we reasonably believe the service or other learners are at risk. How that works is in Suspension and termination.
The service
Speakelle is an English-learning app. You practise speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Lessons are generated for you when you start them, at a level you chose yourself — Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced — and a live AI tutor coaches you through the ones that are spoken.
English is what you practise and what the app is written in. If you told us another first language, the tutor may explain a word in that language. That is the extent of it. Speakelle does not teach other target languages today.
The four skills
- Speaking. A live conversation with a voice tutor — a realtime speech model, not a recording. You talk, it talks back. It picks up where you hesitate, offers a better way to say what you were reaching for, and keeps going. Captions are on by default. Each correction is recorded when it happens, so even a call that drops still leaves you the “you said → a better way” pairs you had already earned.
- Listening. A story written for your level and narrated a paragraph at a time. The words are not shown while it plays — otherwise a listening lesson quietly becomes a reading one — then a short quiz on what you heard. A wrong answer replays the paragraph that answered it.
- Reading. A short passage with one line in focus. You read out loud; a coach listens, follows along, and drills the lines that gave you trouble. It reports a word read as a different word, a word skipped, a word added, or a clear stumble. It does not grade your accent. An accent is not a reading error.
- Writing. A prompt and a page. Your draft saves as you type. Feedback comes back as a remark, your text with the changes marked in place, each fix explained, and one model answer. Grammar, vocabulary, and flow are scored and shown. Those scores lock nothing.
How a lesson starts
There are four ways in. They share the same runners; they differ in why the lesson exists.
- The Ladder is a curriculum: twelve steps per skill, forty-eight in all, from the first objective to the last. Each step is a real objective. The lesson behind it is generated when you start it. Progress on a step stores the best score you have ever achieved on it, including scores repaired later.
- Studio is “practise this, now.” You name a topic — ordering food, a job interview, whatever you actually need — or pick one of the suggestions. We generate a lesson of the type you asked for (conversation, read-aloud, listening story, writing, or mixed) at your level.
- Rehearsal is a speaking lesson generated so you can practise a real conversation you have coming up — a visa interview, a call with a landlord, a first day at work. The tutor plays the other person rather than a coach, and corrections wait until it is over. Rehearsal is part of the paid plans.
- Freestyle is an open conversation with no structured lesson flow. Your level still shapes how the tutor speaks and when it corrects. A freestyle is not generated by a model in advance, so it does not count against the daily lesson ceiling; the minutes you talk still come out of the same speaking pool.
After a lesson
When a lesson finishes you get a recap: the result of that run — score, mistakes, transcript, feedback, a short summary. One result per lesson. From there you can:
- Retry a drill built from the mistakes of that lesson. Clearing an item can repair that lesson’s score (writing rubric scores are never rewritten; cleared corrections sit alongside). Unavailable when there is nothing left to improve. Attempts are kept as history. A lesson’s score is the best across the original result and every attempt.
- Review. Mistakes and useful phrases land in a cross-lesson review deck. You grade those items over time. Drill outcomes update matching review items; grading a review item does not rewrite a lesson.
Mixed lessons combine skills in one sitting — typically listen, discuss, then write. The same recap, retry, and review machinery applies.
You can set how fast the tutor talks (slower, normal, faster) relative to the rate already chosen for your level. Paid plans can also choose which voice engine and character they talk to. Those choices change how the tutor sounds and behaves. They do not change how minutes are counted: a minute is a minute, whichever voice you pick.
What Speakelle is not
Speakelle is practice. It is not a school, not a person, and not a certificate. In particular:
- The tutor is not a human teacher. It is an AI system. It can mishear you, invent a correction, miss a mistake, or phrase something awkwardly. Treat it as a patient speaking partner with notes, not as an authority.
- No pronunciation score. We do not grade phonemes or your accent. The coach reports the words it heard go wrong. An accent is not a defect in the product and is not treated as one.
- No level test, no certified CEFR result. You pick Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced. Nothing in Speakelle re-measures you, and nothing we show is a placement, a diploma, or an official language level. We use internal bands only to pitch vocabulary and speech rate.
- No streaks, no daily-goal rings, no points. Steps, quiz scores, and words written are counted so you can see your own work. None of them become a streak we nag you to keep.
- Not medical, legal, immigration, or employment advice. A rehearsal of a visa interview or a job interview is practice for the conversation, not advice about the visa or the job. Outcomes in the real conversation are yours.
- Not a substitute for professional instruction where you need it — exam prep with an official body, a classroom with a qualified teacher, speech therapy, or anything a regulator would recognize.
Generated stories, passages, prompts, recaps, and model answers are produced by models. They can be wrong, incomplete, uneven in difficulty, or a poor fit for you. If something looks off, skip it, start another lesson, or write to us.
Eligibility and children
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher, to create an account and use Speakelle. By using the service you confirm that you meet that requirement and that you have the legal capacity to agree to these Terms.
Speakelle is not directed at children, and it is not available for children yet. We have not built the guardrails a child-appropriate product needs — around the tutor’s behavior, generated content, voice sessions, account controls, and parental involvement — and we will not pretend otherwise. Until those guardrails are in place and we have updated these Terms to say so, people under 18 may not use Speakelle, and parents and guardians must not create accounts for them or allow them to use an adult account.
We intend, later, to offer a version of Speakelle that is suitable for children. That will only happen after we have put strong safety guardrails around the system and said so clearly here. It is not available today. There is no child mode, no family plan, and no under-18 permission flow hiding in settings.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a person under 18 has an account, write to hell@trontra.com with whatever you can share. We will close the account and delete the associated data.
Accounts
Most of Speakelle sits behind an account. You create one with the sign-in methods we offer at the time (today, email; we may add or remove methods). You are responsible for the inbox or credentials you use, and for what happens on the account.
During onboarding we ask what to call you, which language you are strongest in, your level, and — if you want to say — what you need English for. Those answers shape the lessons we generate and the suggestions we show. You can change them later in Profile. They are not a test, and we do not sell them.
Keep your sign-in details to yourself. If you think someone else is in your account, change your sign-in details and tell us. We may suspend an account we reasonably believe is compromised.
One person, one account, for your own learning. You may not share an account, sell access, scrape the service, or create accounts in bulk to farm lessons or minutes. We may close accounts that exist for that kind of use.
You may stop using Speakelle at any time. To close the account and have us delete it, write to hell@trontra.com from the address on the account. We will close it and delete the learner data tied to it, except for records we must keep (for example a billing receipt the tax rules will not let us throw away, or a note of the request itself). Closing the account does not, on its own, refund a period you have already paid for; see Plans, minutes, and billing.
If you signed in with an email we sent a code to, that inbox is the recovery path. Keep it working. We are not obliged to reconstruct an account whose only key you can no longer open.
Plans, minutes, and billing
Speakelle is free to start. Paid plans buy more speaking time, longer sessions, more lessons in a day, a choice of tutor voice, and rehearsals. The numbers below are the numbers the product actually enforces — the same ones on the pricing page and in Profile.
Current plans
- Free — Free. Enough to find out whether talking to an AI helps. 15 speaking minutes a month. Sessions up to 5 minutes. Three lessons a day — reading, writing and listening included. A live voice tutor, out loud, in real time. One voice, no character choice, and no rehearsals.
- Pro — $20 per month. A real habit: a conversation most days. 60 speaking minutes a month. Sessions up to 10 minutes. Choose your tutor's voice and character. Rehearse a real conversation you have coming up. 15 lessons a day.
- Pro+ — $50 per month. For the deadline: a visa interview, a move, a new job. 180 speaking minutes a month — three times Pro. Sessions up to 15 minutes. Choose your tutor's voice and character. Rehearse a real conversation you have coming up. 40 lessons a day.
Prices are in United States dollars and exclusive of any tax Stripe is required to collect. We may change a plan’s price or entitlements; a change that would apply to a period you have already paid for will not take that period away. If we retire a plan you are on, we will move you to the closest remaining plan or let the subscription end, and we will say so beforehand.
How minutes and lessons are counted
- Speaking minutes are a monthly pool. They are metered by our servers, from our clock, not from anything your browser reports. On a paid plan the pool follows the Stripe billing period. On the free plan it follows the UTC calendar month and comes back on the first.
- Minutes do not roll over. Unused minutes expire at the end of the period. They are not a balance you can bank, gift, or cash out.
- A session has a ceiling — currently 5 minutes on Free, 10 minutes on Pro, and 15 minutes on Pro+. The tutor is asked to start wrapping up before the ceiling. An abandoned session may still be settled against the cap; that is how we bound the cost of a tab that dies mid-call.
- New lessons have a daily ceiling as well, because generating a story or a passage costs money before anyone presses play. Freestyle conversations do not count against that daily ceiling; they still spend speaking minutes.
- When a pool or a ceiling is exhausted, the related action stops until it resets, or until you move to a plan that includes more. Profile shows what you have left.
Paying, renewing, changing, canceling
Paid plans are subscriptions. They renew each month until you cancel. Payment is handled by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card number; Stripe does. Upgrading from the free plan opens Stripe Checkout. Managing a paid plan — changing plan, updating the card, canceling — opens Stripe’s billing portal from Profile.
- Cancel whenever you like. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for. You keep the plan until that date; then the account returns to Free. Profile will say when it ends.
- Moving between paid plans is an update of the existing subscription, with whatever proration Stripe applies, rather than a second subscription. Do not check out a second time while one is already live; use the portal.
- If a renewal payment fails, we keep the paid entitlements while Stripe retries, and we will tell you in Profile that the last payment did not go through. If retries fail and the subscription lapses, the account returns to Free. Fixing the card in the portal is the way back.
- Fees are generally non-refundable. Unused minutes are not refunded, in whole or in part, if you cancel mid-period, if you do not use the allowance, or if you close the account. If we charged you in error, or the service was unusable for a reason that is on us, write to hell@trontra.com and we will make it right. Nothing in these Terms limits a right you have under mandatory consumer law that we cannot waive.
We do not currently offer annual billing, gifts, family sharing, seats for a class, or invoices outside Stripe. If that changes, these Terms will say so.
The tutor, your voice, and your microphone
Speaking and read-aloud lessons need a microphone. Your browser will ask. If you refuse, those lessons cannot run; listening and writing still can. You are responsible for using Speakelle somewhere you are allowed to be recorded talking — not, for example, in a meeting you do not control.
During a voice session we stream audio so the tutor can hear you and reply. When the session ends we keep a text transcript and the corrections the tutor reported — not a recording of your voice — because the recap, the retry drill, and the review deck are built from that text. We do not sell the transcript. We do not put it on a public page. We do not hand it to another company to use for its own purposes. More on that under Your data.
The tutor can be wrong. It may mis-transcribe an accent, a quiet room, or a dropped packet. When it is unsure it is supposed to ask you to repeat rather than guess; it will not always succeed. Captions are a comprehension aid, not a guarantee that the words on screen were the words in the air.
A live session is metered and capped as described above. Do not try to extend a call past the ceiling, spoof remaining minutes from the client, or keep a session open after you have walked away in order to burn someone else’s budget. We enforce limits on the server.
If you say something that suggests you are in immediate danger or thinking of harming yourself, the tutor is instructed to drop the coaching frame, point you toward real help, and not probe. It is still not a crisis service. If you are in danger, contact local emergency services.
Your content
“Your content” is what you bring: topics you type in Studio, the situation you describe for a rehearsal, writing you submit, things you say in a lesson, and the profile answers you give us.
You keep whatever rights you have in your content. You grant Trontra LLC a limited license to host, process, transcribe, generate from, display back to you, and store your content, solely so we can operate Speakelle for you — generate the lesson, run the tutor, show the recap, meter the plan, fix bugs, and prevent abuse. That license ends when we no longer need the content to provide the service or to meet a legal duty, including when we delete it after you close the account.
You confirm that your content is yours to use this way, that it does not knowingly infringe someone else, and that it does not include material these Terms forbid. Studio topics and rehearsal situations are moderated before a lesson is generated; moderation can refuse a prompt. A refusal is not a finding that you did something illegal. It is us declining to run that prompt.
We may remove content or refuse a lesson that appears to break these Terms or the law. We are not obliged to monitor everything you type or say, and we do not claim to.
Acceptable use
Speakelle is for learning English. Use it that way. In particular, you must not:
- Use the service if you are under 18, or to create an account for someone who is.
- Try to jailbreak, prompt-inject, or otherwise redirect the tutor into producing things unrelated to language practice — including sexual content involving minors (which we will report), scams, malware, or instructions for violent crime.
- Use a lesson, a rehearsal, or the tutor to impersonate someone in order to deceive, to harvest another person’s information, or to generate abusive, hateful, or harassing speech aimed at a real person.
- Upload or speak other people’s sensitive personal data (health, financial, government identifiers) that you have no right to put here. The tutor is a language partner, not a vault.
- Interfere with the service: probing, scraping at a volume that burdens us, circumventing minutes or lesson ceilings, reverse engineering except where a law gives you a non-waivable right, reselling access, or wrapping Speakelle as if it were your product.
- Share an account, or use bots to mint lessons, harvest generated content, or farm speaking minutes.
- Record, publish, or commercially reuse the tutor’s voice or a generated lesson as a standalone course, audiobook, or dataset. Your own practice, privately, is the point. Shipping our output as yours is not.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules, withhold remaining minutes on that account, and — where the law requires or a person is at risk — report the behavior. If we got that wrong, write to us.
Intellectual property
Speakelle, the name, the mark, the design of the four skill worlds, the software, the ladder objectives, and the way a lesson is put together are owned by Trontra LLC or our licensors. These Terms give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the service to learn English, for as long as your account is in good standing. They do not give you the product.
A generated lesson is licensed to you for your own learning. You may keep your recaps, your writing, and your notes. You may not scrape the catalog of generated content, republish our lessons as a textbook or a competing app, or use them to train another model.
Feedback you send us — a bug, a “this looks wrong”, an idea — we may use without obligation to you. That is so a report can actually become a fix.
Your data — we do not share it
This is a promise about Speakelle, not a slogan. The detail lives in the Privacy Policy. The short version, which these Terms rely on, is:
- We do not sell your personal information. Not transcripts, not writing, not voice, not email, not what you need English for.
- We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or other companies for their own purposes. No ad networks. No “partners” who want a list. No licensing of learner audio or text to anyone else’s training run or product.
- We do not use your lessons, recordings, or writing to train models for sale, for other customers, or for a general-purpose model we would then ship to someone else. Your practice is for your recap, your drills, your review deck, and for running the tutor in that lesson.
- Operating Speakelle means computers have to process what you type and say: hosting, signing you in, charging a card if you pay, and the AI systems that generate a lesson and speak with you. That processing exists to provide the feature you asked for, to you. It is not a side channel that turns your account into someone else’s dataset.
- Stripe sees what it needs to charge you, and nothing about your lessons. We do not see your full card number.
If a public authority makes a lawful demand we cannot resist, we will provide what the demand actually requires and no more. That is the exception, not a programme.
You can ask what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete the account, at hell@trontra.com. We will answer. Where a data-protection law gives you further rights, we will honor those too.
Availability and changes to the service
We work to keep Speakelle up. We do not promise unbroken uptime, unbroken voice quality, or that a particular model, voice, or lesson type will remain available in the form you first saw. Voice depends on third-party realtime models; they can fail, change, or become unbuyable. When an engine is missing we fall back rather than strand you, but a fallback is still a change you will hear.
We may add, pause, or remove features — including a lesson type, a voice, the ladder, rehearsals, or a plan entitlement — when we need to. If we discontinue Speakelle altogether we will say so at the email on the account, stop renewals, and not charge for periods after shutdown.
We may also ship safety work you did not ask for: tighter moderation, a shorter session, a refused topic. Those changes are part of running an AI tutor, not a breach of these Terms.
Disclaimers
Speakelle is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, quiet enjoyment, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that:
- the tutor’s corrections, transcripts, or scores are accurate;
- a generated lesson is appropriate, complete, or on-level;
- your English, your exam, your interview, or your visa will improve or succeed because you practised here;
- the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or free of errors; or
- any particular voice, model, or feature will remain on the plan you bought for the entire life of your account.
Some places do not allow certain disclaimers. If you live in one of them, some of this section may not apply, and you may have rights these Terms cannot take away.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Trontra LLC and its officers, members, employees, and contractors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages; for lost profits, lost data, lost practice time, or substitute services; or for any damage arising from what the tutor said, what a lesson contained, what a recap summarised, or how a third-party model behaved — whether the theory is contract, tort (including negligence), or otherwise, and whether or not we were told that this kind of loss was possible.
To the same extent, our total liability for all claims arising out of these Terms or Speakelle is capped at the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us for Speakelle in the twelve months before the claim, and (b) fifty United States dollars (US $50). If you have only ever used the free plan, (b) is the cap.
These limits are a part of the bargain: the free plan and the paid prices only exist because risk is bounded this way. They do not limit liability that the law says we may not limit — for example, liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, where that restriction is void.
Indemnity
If a third party comes after us because of your content, your misuse of Speakelle, or your breach of these Terms, you will indemnify Trontra LLC and hold us harmless from the claim, the damages, and the reasonable legal costs, except to the extent we caused it.
Suspension and termination
You may stop using Speakelle and ask us to close the account at any time, as described under Accounts.
We may suspend or close an account immediately if you break these Terms, if you are under 18, if payment is not only late but over, if we are required to by law, or if we reasonably believe the account is being used to harm someone or to attack the service. Where it is practical and lawful we will say so at the email on the account.
We may also stop offering Speakelle as a whole. If we do, paid renewals stop, and your license to use the service ends.
Sections that by their nature should survive — including those on intellectual property, your data as already processed, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, termination, and general — do survive.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms. The date at the top is the date the current version took effect. For a change that materially reduces your rights or materially increases your obligations, we will give notice — in the product, or at the email on the account — before it applies, except where the change is required by law or by a safety issue that cannot wait.
If you continue to use Speakelle after an update takes effect, the new Terms apply. If you do not agree, close the account before that date. The version that applied to a period you already paid for continues to govern that period.
General
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the agreement between you and us for Speakelle. They replace earlier terms for the same subject. Other Trontra work (for example an agency engagement) has its own contracts and is not governed from here.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce a point on one occasion, we still can on the next.
- Severability. If a court finds a provision unenforceable, the rest remains. The provision is modified only as far as needed to make it enforceable.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our consent. We may assign them to an affiliate or to a buyer of Speakelle or of Trontra LLC, and we will not share your learner data with the world as a consequence — the buyer steps into our place under the same promises, including that we do not sell your data.
- Third-party services. Stripe’s screens, a sign-in provider, and the speech models we call are their own products, with their own terms, when you are on their page or their wire. Our promise about your data is about what we do. We still choose vendors so that your lessons are not a product they get to keep.
- Governing law. These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which Trontra LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer law in your country says otherwise and cannot be waived. Courts located there have jurisdiction, except that you may still bring a qualifying claim in your local courts if the law of your country gives you that right.
- Informal resolution. Before filing a claim, write to hell@trontra.com with the problem and a way to reach you. We will try to resolve it. A short pause for that conversation does not waive a limitation period the law would otherwise run.
- Language. These Terms are written in English. That is the governing text. A translation is a courtesy.
